Susan, UK (14 February 2010) I have had a lovely time staying here. It met (and exceeded) my expectations. Thank you for everything!
-
MSC-International, Rotterdam (13 October 2009) Top quality facility - high level hospitality - significant services - good price. Definitely I will be back; both for business as well as private activities.
Best regards, Nico de Bruin, Managing Director, Multi Solutions Company B.V. -
Gardengirl381, Denver USA (01 October 2009) We spent a couple of nights in Amsterdam after cycling 2 weeks in the Holland countryside. Needless to say, the hub-bub of the city different! The quiet location of The Flying Pancake and the delightful restaurant recommendations from Claudia made it a wonderful stay. Being so close to the tram stop let us get quickly into the center of the city and come "home" to our quick and beautiful neighborhood. She suggested a local street market and it was one of the highlights of our visit. We would definitely stay there again!

Traveldude California (19 September 2009) I stayed at The Flying Pancake in Amsterdam with two friends and could not have been more pleased with my experience. First off, the location is perfect because it's a short walk or bike ride to any main attraction in Amsterdam. Even better, you can rent bikes from the owners for about 7.50 Euro per day. I highly reccomend doing this especially if you plan on doing a lot of site seeing. Next, the suite we stayed in, which I believe is called "Cook's Suite" was very cozy and inviting. The room had a great bathroom and shower which also contained a steam room. The living room has a couch, lounge chair, dinner table, and television. As for the service, Claudia, the owner, went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I really have nothing negative to say about this place and would reccomend it to anyone.
-
Travelguru420 (15 September 2009) From the moment my friends and I arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. Claudia is not just a great hostess, she provides the highest quality of service that anyone could ask for. From the homemade breakfast every morning to the superb cleanliness of the room, every bit of our stay was beyond expectation. I would recommend The Flying Pancake to my friends and family because it took my stay and experience in Amsterdam from good to amazing!!!
-
USCworld, California (09 September 2009) Authentic experience! This place has it all! You can't go wrong with Dutch hospitality.
The owner, Claudia, treated me like I was apart of her own family. As if I were one of her sons. I got sick while in Brussels, and upon arriving in Amsterdam, I was already feeling the effects. However, Cluadia, made sure I was getting the proper care and treatment while I was under her watch. I can't thank her enough for making my stay managable while I was under the weather. With any other circumstances, I would have been lost, sick, unfortable and down right miserable. Thank You Claudia!
To finish up, the accomadations where impeccable! We stayed in the Cooks Suite and If you're a fan of decor, you will love this room! Very open, multi level, jungle theme bathroom; that makes you feel as if you're on a remote island. TV with American channels, books on the culture, as well as current affair magazines for you women out there! To finish things off, the continental breakfast, which is dropped off every morning at your door like clockwork, is delicious!
5 STARS all the way! Bring a spouse, a girlfriend, or come on your honeymoon. You will have no worries at The Flying Pancake! -
Jimdrw, Bay City, MI, USA (26 July 2009) "More of an apartment than a B&B, in a good way!"
I was having a terrible day of travel as I arrived in Amsterdam, but the Flying Pancake made it all better. The neighborhood is quiet and 10 minutes to everything via bike. The iPod dock, DVDs, and coffee maker are great. Being able to open the windows and having no street noise seems like a rarity here. This city really bustles. -
Angelchaos, Brighton, UK (29 June 2009) I arranged a trip to Amsterdam as a surprise for my partner's birthday, and had heard lots of good things about "The Flying Pancake". Luckily the week I wanted was free, and we stayed in the Captain suite. From the moment we arrived Claudia was the perfect host, we felt welcome as though we were friends of the family. The suite itself has been wonderfully decorated, it basically covers the whole floor of the house and has it's own entrance via the street.
The suite consists of one long room, with a lovely big comfy bed at one end, and a breakfast table, sofa and kitchen area at the other. Small details like; the wireless internet and ipod charger made travelling around Amsterdam so much easier as we had an ipod touch with us, and could use google maps, and of course trip advisor.
The bathroom was also beautifully decorated and the steam room was a lovely way to relax after a long days walking. We had such a wonderful time, we will definately be back for another visit in the future.
Many thanks Claudia. -
Jonathan & Rebecca (18 June 2009) We stayed in The Captains Suite towards the end of May. This place is wonderful, everything about it is just so relaxing. We visit Amsterdam annually & normally stay in hotels, but after experiencing the Flying Pancake - would stay nowhere else. So close to the city centre but far enough to be away from it all. The breakfasts are amazing..

Grayson08, North Carolina, USA (18 June 2009) This is one of; if not the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. My wife and I felt like we were on a second honeymoon. We stayed in the cook suite, which is very romantic and cozy. It truly felt like you were a local, climbing up the staircase to your loft studio apartment. It has its own separate entrance which is very handy. Normally we don't care too much for B+B's, but this was just perfect. Claudia (the hostess) was always nearby and easy to reach if we needed anything, and she is extremely nice and helpful. It was great being able to reach outside our door and grab the breakfast basket, and eat at our leisure.
One of my favorite features of the suite was all the windows. If it got stuffy, you could open, or close any combination of the wiondows to create the perfect cross breeze. I especially liked the two little "hidden" windows. The lighting was also easy to control to create the perfect mood.
To summarize, this is a great value for what you get. You truly feel like a local staying here. The neighborhood is pleasant and quiet, and handy to the tram. You will not regret staying here!
Tip: there's a great little shop down the street at the corner of Nieuwe Prinsegracht and Roeterstraat that sells good sandwiches and good beer ,etc. at good prices.
Also, don't try to walk all the way from Centraal station, it's a hike. We only had one "full" backpack each, but it was just a little farther than we cared to walk. When you come out of C.S. go left and grab tram #9 to Plantage Kerklaan instead, easy!
Thanks again Claudia! -
Astralbeats, Singapore (03 May 2009) "If only there's a Flying Pancake in all the cities I go to!"
Best for honeymoon couples! The room is well designed (lots of white, beam woods, fireplace, wall mounted espresso machine, steam room), balancing modern aesthetics and coziness superbly. The host gives heaps of privacy but is always good to help with any questions or bookings. Located away from the touristy bits so it's quieter :) but you can still take 10-15 mins walk to it. Love it to bits, best place i've stayed so far..will go back there again. Wish there's such lodging in all the cities I go to. -
The Naismiths (13 April 2009) We and our friend enjoyed a very enjoyable weekend in Amsterdam and The Flying Pancake made a perfect base - well equipped and accessible. Claudia and her husband made us feel very welcome and I loved the steam room!
-

Madrid_traveller09, Spain (16 March 2009) "5 star"
I cannot think of a better and more comfortable place to stay in Amsterdam; quiet neighourhood pretty close to the center and major attractions. Everything has been perfect (fireplace, flowers, drinks...); the bad thing is that you cannot stay there forever. Thanks Claudia for being such a great hostess -
Sandy USA (23 January 2009) The Flying Pancake's fireplaces attracted me for a cold January visit and Claudia's genuine warm welcome & helpfulness, fresh breakfast baskets didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, I arrived with a traveler's upset stomach, and Claudia offered some very helpful remedies that had me feeling better very quickly.
I took advantage of the excellent location and got last minute seats in the Carre theater, even while sold out!
I found the apartment cozy and bright and loved the decadent spa/steam-room shower and comfortable, restful bedding. There was surprisingly good wine and beer available, other drinks and gourmet Illy espresso / cappuccino maker.
I never felt neglected and always pampered. I enjoyed the privacy and convenient features of an apartment with the luxury of a breakfast basket full of fresh goodies left at the doorstep to enjoy whenever i decide to wake up. Bliss. -
Cinqetoiles, Paris (23 January 2009) A perfect haven of calm, quiet, comfort and style. Claudia was an extremely kind, accommodating hostess. Loved the shower/bathroom and fresh flowers. Our suite was simply perfect for our 3-day stay... a little piece of affordable luxury. Definitely do not miss the Indonesian restaurant that Claudia recommends.
-
Natasha (16 January 2009) For the third time (unfortunately the rooms were booked last year) I stayed for a business trip in The Flying Pancake and for the third time i was happy ;-). I really recommend this place for short and long stay because at TFP you will like home...
-
Itzia, Montreal (07 January 2009) My fiance and I had the pleasure of staying at The Flying Pancake. We found this truly amazing place, while looking for a fire place and steam shower. They offer them both and it is in a unique and charming atmosphere.Set in a wonderful Dutch house, the two magnificent suites are simply superbe. It feels like a five-star suite. I can guarantee that there is no better deal in Amsterdam. I can vouch for that, as we had to look for other rooms on the weekends that The Flying Pancake was already fully booked. Altogether we stayed almost three weeks at TFP!
Waking up in the morning or sometime early afternoon and having our breakfast waiting at the door was heaven. I cannot forget to mention Claudia and her lovely family, who with their grace and kindness made our stay even more enjoyable. It was like magic, like a honeymoon...
The Flying Pancake is truly the best place I've ever stayed in. -
Scoobs83 (28 December 2008) We had a very nice stay at The Flying Pancake just before Christmas. Claudia is a very friendly and welcoming hostess and the accommodation is lovely. We particularly liked the little extra touches like the coffee machine and the Christmas Chocolates!
If you are looking for somewhere to stay for a short break in Amsterdam then we definitely recommend this bed and breakfast. -
-
Tali Bradley (31 August 2008) Finest 'home away from home', lovely to return to after busy days and so pleasant that next time we will opt for time in with the lovely music collection!
-
Naskali, Finland (15 August 2008) We (me. my wife and 11 month old twin boys) stayed 4 nights in The Flying Pancake in beginning of April 2008. My opinion is that we could not find a better place to stay anywhere. The apartment has a lot of space, own stereo system, fireplace, etc. and it is furnished extremely well. We had some doubts about having twin babies with us, but with the help of the owner, Claudia, everything was perfect. We got the baby cots, high-chairs and even special yoghurt for babies. Each time when I'll be in Amsterdam, I'll stay in The Flying Pancake!
-
Tracy and Rob (23 June 2008) We had a most delightful stay in Cooks apartment from 19 - 23 June. The apartment is spacious and the finishing touches e.g chocolates, spirits etc make it very homely.
We were impressed by the selection of DVDs and cds and had a monst enjoyable stay.
Our favourute local bar was the Koosje and favourate local restaurant was Plancius - both had friendly and fun staff and served delicious food.
We also enjoyed chilling in the steam room after our adventures in Amsterdam -
Jaqui and Ian Phillips (16 March 2008) We stayed at the FP two over the weekend of 1-2 March 2008. The location was excellent (near to a tram stop from the Central Station) and within an easy walk to some great shops and restaurants.
Claudia made us very welcome and the room was huge with good facilities such as open fire and steam shower. It was also quiet and comfortable.
Breakfast is delivered to your door - great selection of bread, pastries, cheese, meat, jam - and Claudia is so attentive that she noticed we weren't eating all the breads - so changed the delivery to include boiled egg and yoghurt.
Nice little touches like fresh tulips in the room, a great supply of DVD's, CD's and an iPod, and really good toiletries made the whole experience very special. -
Ben from Belfast (13 February 2008) The Flying Pancake is an excellent place to stay, if you are looking for a treat in Amsterdam. My girlfriend and I were looking for a boutique hotel in A'dam for two nights, as we don't like the Marriott-style chains when staying for leisure. We found the FP and were delighted with the whole experience. What we liked: great location - beautiful house with Dutch character - Claudia the perfect host - breakfast - space - luxuriously equipped room.
-
LagunaSteve (09 February 2008) Great location to everything in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms are like apartments with first class amenities. I would have expected to pay a lot more for the experience.
-
GrandDude (30 January 2008) My wife and I stayed at the Flying Pancake for an extended weekend with our adult daughter earlier this month. The Flying Pancake is small, comprised of two suites that occupy the second (Captain's suite) and third (Cook's suite) floors of a beautifully restored historic 18th century home located in a charming, quiet neighborhood outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Amsterdam. Yet TFP is close enough to every single attraction of note that we found taxis and even the trams were completely unnecessary. We walked everywhere. My wife and I stayed in the Captain's suite, our daughter in the other. Each suite is roomy, with its own steam shower, kitchenette area, and sitting area with fireplace. The comfort of the rooms is matched only by the gracious and enthusiastic support of TFP's proprietress, Claudia Veldkamp. Don't miss the opportunity to sit down with her upon arrival (or any time during your stay) to ask for suggestions, or simply to review the map for the location of attractions you plan to visit. Our experience at The Flying Pancake seemed more a visit to the home of friends than merely a stay at a hotel - a unique experience well beyond our already heightened expectations.
-
Wig06 (27 January 2008) We stayed in the top suite in dec. 07, which is spacious and of a very good quality. TFP is more like an apartment rather than a B&B, so it feels private and homely. The shower / steam room was great and there are lots of other touches as already mentioned. Claudia is very helpful and allowed us to store baggage on our last day. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend to others.
-
Miss_DLondon (05 January 2008) I had a really lovely time staying at the flying pancake b&b, it was beautifully furnished, the steam-shower with eucalyptus scent very luxurious! Claudia the host was very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Located on a quiet road, it was so relaxing and peaceful. Breakfast was left outside our room each morning, wrapped up inside a basket, which meant you could get up and have your breakfast completely at your leisure.
We found that we chose the coldest time of year to go! and so the brilliant collection of romantic comedy dvds, the fact that there was an ipod player and fireplace meant that we could have a very cosy night in without feeling that we were missing out on the Amsterdam nightlife.
We very much hope to stay again at the flying pancake. -
John Bullen (02 January 2008) My first visit to beautiful Amsterdam this past summer was enhanced by choosing to stay at The Flying Pancake. This is one of the most unique B&B's I have ever experienced, and it gave me a flavor of Dutch hospitality no hotel could ever come close to matching. The location is well within walking distance to the City Centrum, but far enough away to not be right in the middle of the noise and hustle of the city. The Cook's Apartment was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and I felt I had my own apartment/suite rather than 'just a room.' This will certainly be a 'do again' for me when I next come back to Amsterdam. (Soon, I hope!)
Thanks Claudia!! -
Alan Wells (14 December 2007) If you are looking for something that's a bit different, close to the centre of Amsterdam, and a real experience, you must try The Flying Pancake.
The two suites are just brilliant, so well appointed, spacious and comfortable.
The breakfast, which arrives at you door in a basket all beautifully presented with fresh fruit, bread, cold meat etc etc, is pure delight - like opening a wonderful hamper full goodies.
The room is spacious and modern looking out over the surrounding street scene, typically Dutch, interesting and within a few minutes walk of shops, museums etc. There is plenty to occupy guests with music CD's and DVD's and a well-stocked tray of different drinks. And the shower/steam room is a wonderful way to start your day.
And the family are a delight with a warm and friendly welcome. It wold be difficult to ask for more or find anywhere better.
-
SueFrance (08 October 2007) The Flying Pancake really deserves its excellent Trip Advisor rating. Claudia was extremely helpful and charming. She even lent us a laptop so that we could check in on-line for our flights home. Everything in the flat is of top quality, e.g. Bang&Olufsen Hi-Fi, Bose docking station for iPod. The sheets in particular were so good that I might have to buy some for home. We stayed in the top flat and friends stayed in the one below. This was an ideal arrangement for friends, as each couple are close but independent. After a day you don't even notice the steep stairs. It's in a pleasant quiet location near to a no.9 tram stop and plenty of good restaurants. Breakfast delivered to your door, what could be better?
-
SammyFinland (25 September 2007) We stayed at the Flying Pancake for four nights and our holiday was perfect. Really nice and quiet B&B Hotel with noble service and top-quality equipments.
-
ZagrebGizm (20 September 2007) This was our 2nd stay at The Flying Pancake and we have already booked our third! It always feels like coming back home, with Claudia and family there to welcome us with warmth and make sure we have all we need and more! Spacious, elegant suites, full of character and furnished with great taste, offer so much more that a bland hotel room. Claudia and the family make wonderful hosts and I can't wait to return! Thank you for all and we will surely keep coming back as often as possible!
-
PPsage Gibraltar (13 August 2007) We have just returned from a stay at The Flying Pancake. The rooms are magnificent, beautifully designed and service is excellent. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel to venture out when it began to rain.
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in on holiday! -
Susane (18 February 2007) Great place to stay when visiting Amsterdam. Comfortable and nicely decorated spacious rooms with steam baths (we loved that, great to relax after long days of sightseeing) in a typical historic canal home. Much more interesting and pleasant than staying at a hotel and private. Claudia, the hostess, was very welcoming to our needs and extremely nice. I highly recommend it.
-
AlwaysTravelFun (20 September 2006) The best B&B I've ever stayed in. Room was like your own studio - bed, dining area, fireplace, sitting area, little kitchen and wonderful bathroom with a steam shower. Breakfast was at your door every morning with fresh breads, cheeses and meats. Good selection of DVD's were provided which was great after a day of walking miles through Amsterdam. Claudia was a great hostess - called us taxi and provided maps and an early breakfast on the day we left. Would definitely stay here again.
